I have 2 pots of mint (potted up that is... there is so much mint here I could easily pot more) and I'm looking for a Camberwell/East Dulwich pavement to pimp as they say (NB. must think of a better term). I vaguely have my eye on one in East Dulwich Grove near the Vale Practice. Suggestions welcome.

whether it is winter, or not
Last week 5 days of hard frost. This week we are back in double figures and I have seen a bee in our SE5 garden. Wondering whether to risk putting some more plants in the Dog Kennel Hill patch. The traffic flow either side of it should help... It is certainly cultivating the weeds. Yet I can't help thinking we need a bit more cold.
I did meet a fellow guerrilla working on a large patch near the carwash; daffs, herbs and sunflowers (as far as I could gather - she is not a native plantswoman so there was a lot of guesswork at work). Her top tip was salvaging the piles of plants dumped behind major DIY stores. I do however have a major supply from my parents and a neighbour so I may not be trying that out. Yet.

Guerilla Gardening @ Dog Kennel Hill
The patch I've started on is on the central reservation going down dog kennel hill - next to where the unknown GG planted the hollyhocks (in fact not quite so unknown - a council garden worker planted them from seed out of his own pocket). There's quite a lot of neglected space and its quite easy to dig. So far I've added 3 x hardy geraniums (two types, both pale pink sadly), 4 x bronze fennel, 1 x teasel [dipsacus], 7 x euphorbia robbiae, 3 x some kind of lilac flowered aster, 2 unknown types of ground cover [possibly Lamium] and a variegated vinca. Plus 1 x acanthus mollis - this is the only plant that is at all demanding [water!] but hopefully the donated bag of compost from Dulwich Garden Centre will help it survive. In the meantime, if you feel moved to join my troop [me] - dont hold back - even to water them when you visit Sainsburys [fill up an empty bottle in the loos].Sunday, 5 October 2008
anti-heroes
so Claire's head was cut open and Sylar poked about in her brain. and she was awake at the time, but it's ok because she regenerates and the script can make knowing jokes about the dismally bad Hannibal film. can the cheerleader please save the world for a change (rather than remain trapped in the never-ending sequence of having to be bloody saved)? this could easily be achieved if Joss Whedon was pulled in to rescue the plot from such cliches.

definite article
Sweden in person, or The Issues (in contemporary culture and aesthetics) in print? 'Seeks-zoos: some recent correspondence with animals' is going live in October, just not sure whether the print will come out first. But the proofs are coming along. Oh, and I will have to work my MA lecture around it too. Can I refrain from pictures of Dax or Finn draped across When Species Meet?
